After many unsuccessful years of trying and 6 failed proposals, and without the majority support of the local community he grew up in, Winy Mass, one of the founding principle architects of Rotterdam based MVRDV, managed to convince the town council to develop a derelict site in the market square of the Dutch town Schijndel. Let me explain: this is a glass building printed with a collage of photographs of traditional local thatched roof farmhouses on the inside of the panels. A marvelous collaboration between Architecture and Photography. The photographs of Frank van der Salm were printed on the glass panels in a technique called “fritting”, which leaves a stained glass like effect. It now hosts a number of shops, restaurants and a health center. Oh, and it’s illuminated at night. For more on the Glass Farm go here.
